Forward thinking infrastructure needs forward thinking rights as well: Perth to offer free blanket WiFi in CBD

ABCNewsLogoI commented on ABC PM about the City of Perth’s decision to blanket the city with free WiFi using a public-private partnership. I noted that it was clearly a boon for business and tourism, and that it was a forward thinking infrastructural project that should be copied by other cities. I also noted, however, that it is very important that there’s a clear privacy policy for how the data of that WiFi network is used. It is important that the corporate partner cannot sell on data about the movements of people through cities without their consent. As I have noted before, digital infrastructure and digital rights go hand in hand.
