I am a Researcher in the Human Experience and Design group at Microsoft Research, Cambridge UK.

I explore how the design of communication technologies interacts with language, action, and culture. I specialise in field research but also conduct lab-based user experience research of prototypes. I am interested in video-mediated communication, chat-based workspaces, cross-device collaboration, intelligent cameras, the user experience of machine learning, device and application ecologies, and engineering culture.

I am an Associate Chair for CHI 2018. I am a former Lecturer in Strategic Communication at The University of Queensland. I am also a former board member and Chair of Electronic Frontiers Australia and am I still a passionate advocate for digital access, freedom, and privacy.
